Take An Inside Look At NFL Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City House
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes purchased a 4,343 square foot house in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2019. The $1.8 million property is a drop in the bucket for Mahomes, who signed a record-setting half a billion-dollar contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. Read on to see the NFL star's new place, which features a 1,250 square foot master suite!
Space For Two
After winning the 2020 Super Bowl Championship, Patrick Mahomes proposed to his high school sweetheart, Brittany Matthews. Matthews is no stranger to sports herself, having briefly played professional women's soccer before becoming a personal trainer.
The couple now share their very own home in Kansas City and are expecting their first child. The home is perfect for raising a family as it offers plenty of outdoor space, three bedrooms, and 2.5 baths. Let's take a closer look.
A Modest But Elegant Entrance
Mahomes and Matthews' home isn't one you'd immediately assume is the residence of a celebrity athlete. While it has a huge driveway and lovely architecture, it is far from ostentatious.
The home is situated on a slope, which gives the illusion of it being a single-level residence with much less indoor space than it actually has. The wispy trees make the home feel tucked away and enhance the privacy of the setting.
A Roundabout Driveway
The large driveway continues on a circular path in front of the home, providing two entrances and exits. It also allows for an incredible amount of parking that could easily accommodate big parties and even a wedding.
From this angle, it's easier to see the floor-to-ceiling window at the front of the home. The feature enables natural light to pour into the family room, which is the first area you see from the front door.
A Grassy Front Lawn
The u-shaped driveway surrounds a grass lawn that's spacious enough to serve as an additional outdoor space. As you'll see, there's plenty of room in the backyard to host big celebrations.
But this lawn offers even more outdoor space to enjoy. It also provides ample separation from the street for added privacy. The windows are tinted and heavily reflective so passersby can't see inside. Two statues flank the walkway to the front door for a touch of sophistication that isn't overbearing.
A Modern Foyer
A vertical window next to the front door enables Mahomes and Matthews to clearly see who is at the door before opening it. Once inside, guests are immediately greeted by a modern foyer.
The area boasts enough room for an entryway bench and a round table behind the stairwell for keys, mail, and other items you might want to drop upon entering. Straight ahead is the dining room, which overlooks the large driveway and lawn out front.
A Welcoming Family Room
Next to the front door is a spacious family room complete with a grand fireplace, which acts as the focal point of the room. The large window from the front of the home pours light in by day, and recessed lighting provides ample illumination by night.
The door, the mantel, the floors, and the wall embellishment around the fireplace all boast different shades of wood that prevent the home from feeling like a log cabin.
Plenty Of Room For Family
The family room has plenty of spare room around the furniture for guests to stand and talk or children to play without feeling cramped. Mahomes is the oldest of six siblings, so family gatherings are sure to be full.
The NFL star is no stranger to the professional athlete life; his father is MLB player Patrick Mahomes Sr. His eldest son got both his namesake and his athletic ability, which earned Patrick Jr. the affectionate nickname "Showtime."
Sharp Architectural Features
The family room features architectural details that give a sharp and sophisticated feel to the home. Drop ceilings give the room nuance and prevent the off-white paint from seeming dull.
The door straight ahead has a grid design to mirror that of the windows on either side. This allows for ample visibility of the green vegetation outside. The vibrancy of the trees contrasts the darker interior design features, drawing the eye to the extensive backyard.
An Outdoor Place To Lounge
This is only a small fraction of Mahomes' backyard, but it shows the area just outside the family room's glass doors. As was apparent from the view inside, there are trees surrounding the home.
The patio also has a barbecue in the corner and an outdoor loveseat to lounge under the greenery. Stone tiles pick up the pinks in the surrounding flowers and lead up to the lush grass field. This would be a nice outdoor area on its own, but there's much more to come.
They Were Quick To Renovate
Though the staged house was gorgeous enough to sell Mahomes and Matthews on it, they still were quick to renovate. The couple reportedly spent $400,000 making the home their own.
Given Mahomes' multi-millionaire status, the renovations weren't much of a sacrifice. Though Mahomes' father was in the MLB for 11-years, the NFL star has already outdone his dad in terms of career milestones. Mahomes left baseball as a junior in college to focus solely on football.
An Open-Concept Living Room
Diagonal from the family room is the living room which has a similar setup. Flanking this room's pristine fireplace are large, rectangular windows that look out to the back patio.
This room underscores the home's open-concept as it has lines of view to the family room, kitchen, and the backyard. Such a design will be helpful for parents Mahomes and Matthews as they can easily keep an eye on the little ones while cooking or relaxing.
More Doors And Windows
The person who designed this home clearly wanted to provide as much openness as possible. Like the family room, the living room has two walls covered in windows and glass doors.
The room is also spacious enough to comfortably fit large parties of people without feeling cramped. If that weren't enough, French doors straight ahead lead to an enormous sunroom. We'll take a peek at that room later on.
Extensive Cabinetry And A Wet Bar
From this angle, it's clear that this room was designed for those who like to entertain. Built-in cabinetry allows for plenty of storage. A wet bar is complete with a mini-fridge and a sink, even though the kitchen is only a few feet away.
To the left is a guest restroom and the only half bathroom in the home. The other two, which are full bathrooms, are downstairs with the bedrooms. This way guests have a separate facility that doesn't encroach on private living spaces.
A Television Built Into The Cabinets
At this point, you may be wondering how an NFL star has two massive living spaces with no television! How is he supposed to host sports parties without a flatscreen to play the game on?
The answer is hidden behind those built-in cabinet doors. They open up to reveal a huge flatscreen. Mahomes showed off the design feature on his dogs' Instagram account. The lucky pup was lounging below the television, which, of course, had a football game on.
A Guest Bathroom That Pops
The guest bathroom off the living room is a standout. The pink walls give it a vintage look while the marble countertops and chrome backsplash add in a modern twist.
The cabinetry ties in with the wooden features throughout the house and picks up on the unique light fixture above the sinks: a wooden cylinder with light slits. The long countertop provides plenty of storage space underneath, which isn't common for a powder room.
A Retro Kitchen
Mahomes' kitchen has a retro feel with wooden cabinetry and metal barstools that fit neatly beneath the island's countertop. In case that wasn't enough, there's also a dropdown table attached to the side for extra room.
The large island provides plenty of space to prepare meals, which is a vital component of an athlete's day. The cabinets on the far wall offer plenty of storage and feature a double oven and an extra-wide fridge, so cooking in large quantities is a breeze.
A Chef's Stove
This angle provides a better look at the kitchen's impressive stove, which is also extra-wide and complete with a range hood. Beneath the island on this side are drawers that provide even more storage space.
In case that still wasn't enough, there are also cabinets built into the far wall! As with the other common areas, the kitchen has wall-to-ceiling windows in the same grid-style throughout. They overlook the garage doors surrounded by greenery.
Double The Dining Space
One of the best features of this chef's kitchen is its location. The kitchen sits right between the living room and the dining room, so guests are always within close reach of the food.
This is also ideal for seating arrangement purposes. If Mahomes and Matthews wanted to have a huge bash, guests could sit at the dining room table or the kitchen countertop without feeling like they're separate from the rest of the group.
The Formal Dining Room
Beyond the kitchen is this formal dining room. It features giant windows all around that let in plenty of light. It also looks out to the driveway so any late-arriving guests can be spotting coming up.
The room can easily fit an eight, or possibly even a ten, seat table. There is also room to fit a cabinet along the wall and spare chairs or floor plants in the corners. A modern chandelier gives an elegant touch to the formal space.
An Entertainer's Dream Sunroom
Remember that area that the family room overlooked? This is it! It's a gorgeous sunroom that provides yet another space for entertainment. It is also in close proximity to the kitchen, so guests could dine at this room's tabletop if needed.
Though the other common spaces had plenty of windows, this room takes the cake, offering panoramic views of the trees outside. In case the sunlight becomes overwhelming, there are two ceiling fans above to keep the area cool and relaxing.
The Enormous Master Suite
The master bedroom and en suite could easily be an apartment or condo on its own. It features more than 1,200 square feet, which explains why there's so much spare room around the king-sized bed.
A built-in entertainment center features a flat-screen television. Two chaise lounge chairs comfortably fit in front of the home's third fireplace. Glass doors and windows surround the room and let in natural light, while recessed lighting provides even more illumination.
Room For Plenty Of Furniture
This angle further shows how much usable space is in this bedroom. It could easily fit an entire living room set and a bedroom set, or it could be broken up into two rooms.
To fill up the immense wall space, the bed has an extra-wide headboard that extends past the nightstands. On the other side of the wall straight ahead is the master en suite. Let's take a look at what that space has to offer.
The Spa Treatment
The space behind the master bedroom is split between a huge bathroom and a private gym (more on that later). The bathroom looks like a spa with its stand-alone tub right in front of the floor-to-ceiling window and the glistening tile floors.
The his-and-hers sinks are on opposite ends of the massive room, ensuring that Mahomes and Matthews never get in one another's way while getting ready. Behind the sinks are stone walls with large mirrors and elegant light sconces.
A Giant Shower Stall
Opposite the bathtub is an enormous shower stall that reaches all the way up to the ceiling. Two of the four walls are made of stone, and the other two are glass, creating a sleek look that is reminiscent of a museum.
There are two shower heads, a handheld attached to the wall, and one that's fixed to the ceiling, right next to the recessed lighting that's inside of the shower! A separate restroom sits to the left for ample privacy.
The Master Suite Gym
Many celebrities have at-home gyms, especially athletes. But few are this close to the master bedroom. Located right next to the bathroom and behind the bedroom is this workout room.
It's complete with a cable machine, an elliptical, dumbbells, and a bench. The gym has just enough equipment to bust out a quick workout without even having to leave the master suite! It also looks out to the spacious backyard and even has a door going outside.
Enough Space For A Shoe Closet
While having a gym inside a master suite may seem ideal for an athlete, Patrick Mahomes wanted something additional. He has his very own shoe closet!
The NFL star has a 180-pair shoe collection, so he wanted to have a place to keep them all on display. The room features built-in shelves and a lovely lighting design so that no pair goes forgotten. With so many shoes, Mahomes would have to wear a different pair every other day just to get to them all in a year!
A Room-Sized Walk-In Closet
To the left of the master bedroom is this giant walk-in closet. The size of most bedrooms, the closet has plenty of space for its built-in cabinets and even has an island in the middle!
Extra drawers and cabinets are built into the island, and shelves against the far wall provide a place to put pictures. As with the rest of the home, there is plenty of recessed lighting and a wall-to-ceiling window to illuminate the clothes.
The First Spare Room
Though the house has more than 4,000 square feet total, it only has three bedrooms. This is one of the two spare rooms, both of which are modest compared to the giant master suite.
The room features recessed lighting and crown molding. Though the room isn't as large as the master bedroom, it is spacious by most accounts. As is pictured, the room comfortably fits a queen-sized bed, a roomy armoire, nightstands, and two lounge chairs.
A Galley-Style Bathroom
This galley-style bathroom has a long and narrow layout that features a lengthy countertop with plenty of storage underneath. Above the counter is a huge mirror that opens up the narrow space.
The same stone walls in the master en suite are featured here, as are light sconces, though there is also recessed lighting above. Across from the sink is a full-sized shower and bathtub, making this a perfect bathroom for an overnight guest.
The Second Spare Room
This spare room isn't quite as large as the first one, but it still has plenty of room for a furniture set. It comfortably fits a queen-sized bed, end tables, and a huge wardrobe.
This room also features crown molding and large windows. One thing that sets this room apart from the first one is that it has a glass door leading to the yard outside. The natural light keeps the room feeling bright even with the gray walls.
A Classy Restroom
The second spare bathroom isn't as long as the first one but is more spacious in terms of depth. The shorter countertop still has plenty of storage underneath and a full-sized shower and bathtub visible through the mirror.
It also features a drop ceiling and crown molding for some architectural charm. A wooden panel separates the mirror from the rest of the wall and holds a modern light sconce. Below are classy tile floors and above is recessed lighting.
The Lovely Backyard
Behind the house is this lovely backyard with plenty of space to entertain. Now that Mahomes and Matthews have a family of their own, we can imagine there will be plenty of games taking place here.
When Mahomes was growing up, he reportedly was a big fan of baseball. His favorite player wasn't his dad, though. It was Alex Rodriguez, who was Mahomes Sr.'s teammate at one point. The younger Mahomes even dressed up like Rodriguez one Halloween!
Plenty Of Room To Play
This is the view facing away from the house, which showcases how large the grass field really is. Though it isn't nearly as large as a football stadium, it is the perfect size for dogs, kids, and family games.
The hedges provide privacy while also adding to the landscape's lush greenery. There's enough space to host an outdoor event, such as a wedding or a massive barbecue. It would also be a nice spot to have a picnic without having to leave home.
The Cozy Back Patio
As we saw earlier, much of the house looks out to this cozy back patio, which sits behind the family room. If there was a game being played in the backyard, this is probably where the ones who want to sit out would relax and watch.
Speaking of sitting out, Mahomes quit baseball to hone in on football, but he's still a part of the industry. The athlete is a partial owner of the Kansas City Royals.
A Small Garden
The grass field actually extends quite a bit to the right. A stepping stone walkway leading to a small garden. A short hedge acts as a partition around the garden, and a statue acts as a centerpiece.
It would be a perfect spot to grown herbs, fruits, and veggies. Mahomes might be interested in growing tomatoes to make homemade ketchup, given his obsession with the condiment. The quarterback is such a fan that he even became a brand ambassador for Hunt's Ketchup.
The Glamorous Pool
Opposite the garden to the far left of the property is this glamorous pool. It sits atop a green slope, so a staircase leads up to the lovely spot. There is plenty of space around the pool for lounge chairs, tables, and other outdoor furniture.
Tall trees surround the pool, offering shade on hot days and privacy while taking a dip or sunbathing. In July, Kansas City has an average temperate of about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so a pool is a huge relief.
Large Enough To Swim Laps
Many backyard pools are significantly smaller than one you'd find at a gym. That's not the case here, where the pool is large enough to swim laps. Since Mahomes and Matthews are both athletes, they probably wanted a substantial enough pool to get in a good workout.
The pool is so long that it has not one step ladder, but two. One is to the right about halfway down, and the other is to the left near the end.
Perfect For Summer Days
As we mentioned, it typically gets sweltering in Kansas City in the summer months. The pool would be a perfect spot to host a party during the warm part of the year.
This home certainly has plenty of room to entertain all-year-round. Guests could cool down in the pool, then dry off while playing a flag football game before heading inside to watch the game. Don't forget the barbecue, which Mahomes will take with a large side of ketchup!
The View From The Top
In case seeing the property close-up was a little confusing, here's the view from the top. As you can see, the house is rather close to the street, hence the need for thick trees and hedges to create privacy.
The u-shaped driveway is directly opposite the grass field in the back, which sits between the garden to the right and the pool to the left. The house is also built in a u-shape, with the back patio sitting in between the protruding parts of the building.
Both Posh And Cozy
Unlike some athletes, Mahomes didn't go spending all his money on his house (though we can't say the same about his shoes!) The home's setup emphasizes entertainment spaces rather than bedrooms.
The three bedrooms are just enough for Mahomes and Matthews to start a small family. The rest of the spacious property is arranged to accommodate huge parties and events, such as Sunday football barbecues or holiday get-togethers. The young couple loves their home, and it's easy to see why.
